Making Plans: TDSB supporting Black student success and excellence

Part of a series of articles highlighting the creative themes and experiential learning/student engagement strategies boards are employing for their 2021 Summer Learning Programs and the Grade 7 & 8 Mathematics component. All content is provided by the individual boards. To contribute to this series, contact us here.

The Toronto District School Board is focusing on supporting Black student success and excellence as well as cultural sensitivity for all. Their SLP uses Black community members as guest speakers digitally to help change mindsets and create culturally positive strategies to support all students in their Summer Learning Program.

Lots of great learning #TDSBSummer2021…

This July, the Inspired to Excel Summer Learning Program is back @tdsb. Grounded in Africentric perspectives children will cultivate a sense of positive identity development & belonging, alongside literacy & numeracy practices. https://t.co/iqy9e55qHv #tdsbcebsa #tdsb pic.twitter.com/Z71lblT2nW

A huge thank you to Mr. Cumberbatch for sharing his knowledge and passion about drumming. Our students loved to learn from him and felt connected when they shared about the drums they use in their cultures. #TDSBSummer2021 pic.twitter.com/kn3IDfBV35

Off to Week 2 of #TDSBSummer2021 @EastviewTDSB :). It’s been wonderful to see student work come in. Our ‘community’ themed acrostic poems were a highlight. Our students are also becoming environmental stewards by planting seeds in home made gardens! @tdsb_cebsa @TDSB_ConEd @tdsb pic.twitter.com/RxOSSUqxvs
