MyKawartha.com: Summer learning program continues to grow

“Many youngsters wouldn’t be too happy if their parents enrolled them in school during the summer break.”

Or so claims a news article on MyKawartha.com. But not to worry, adds the website. The Trillium Lakelands District School Board’s growing Summer Learning Program “isn’t exactly like being in school.”

According to Superintendent of Learning Andrea Gillespie, “The whole idea is to help kids who might have a little lag in their learning because of the summer break.” Adds Ms. Gillespie, “We work really hard to make sure it’s a real camp atmosphere, not an extension of being in school.”

About Ontario’s Summer Learning Program | À propos du programme d’apprentissage pendant l’été de l’Ontario

Since 2010, the Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE), with funding from the Ministry of Education, has coordinated a successful Summer Learning Program for students in primary grades who would benefit from engaging Literacy and/or Numeracy instruction during the summer months.

Depuis 2010, le Conseil des directions de l’éducation de l’Ontario (CODE), avec le financement du ministère de l’Éducation, a coordonné un programme d’apprentissage d’été réussi pour les élèves du primaire qui bénéficieraient d’un programme de littératie et/ou de numératie pendant les mois d’été.
