Of the 45 young students enrolled in Sarnia’s London Road Public School summer learning program this year, almost a dozen are new residents of Canada. According to the Sarnia Observer, the London Road site (part of Lambton Kent District School Board’s summer learning programs) includes a group of elementary school English language learners recently arrived with their families from India, Syria, the Philippines, Vietnam and Brazil.
Resource teacher Teresa Lopetrone remembers her own childhood as “the translator” for her mom as part of a family that emigrated from Italy. “It’s challenging,” notes Ms. Lopetrone.
